Those of you reading this have probably experienced the conference going through some changes in the last few years. But I was pleasantly surprised by IBM Connect 2016.
The Venue
This year was the first time that the event has been held at the Hilton, which saddened quite a few people who had enjoyed the Swan and Dolphin Hotel. But the new venue was perfect for the number of attendees, especially the sponsors expo area.
The Party
One of the highlights of the week was of course the party. This year it was at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™ – Hogsmeade™. The park was booked for conference attendees only, which meant an endless number of rides for many, due to the non-existent queues. I was dizzy after the first one, so one round of each was enough!
It seemed like everyone had a a blast. Dinner was served in the Hogsmeade village, including various Harry Potter themed desserts and of course Butterbeer.
Prizes
As always, we gave away some cool prizes at IBM Connect 2016. Firstly, we had a drone for one lucky person. To enter the draw, you just had to complete the entry card and have your badge scanned. We had some interesting results!
Thanks Harriet, your answer was one of the best. However, it seems that most people were looking forward to the possibility of chasing their kids with the drone…
The other big prize was the ‘Mac Pack’ organised by Notes Code, which included a Macbook Air, Apple TV, and an Apple watch.
Congratulations to both winners! There was actually three other people who were drawn out as the drone winner, but they were not at the prize giving, so they missed out unfortunately.
Connect 2017?
Occasionally at these events, they announce the dates and often the venue for next years event. There was no news about IBM Connect 2017, but we will keep an eye out for any info. Join the LinkedIn group to keep up with any news.
I personally really enjoyed Connect 2016. It was great to catch up with friends and meet some new people. It was a lot busier than I was expecting and I hope the organizing team are planning to keep it up next year. What did you think?
See you at Engage!
